Wednesday, we harvested once again for the Cedar Crest Farmer's Market where the Kirsch Family takes the morning harvest to sell that afternoon. Hannah is getting quite proficient at driving the garden tractor. If you have not stopped in to see them, please do. They will enjoy visiting with you!
Thursday evening afforded some time for a walk with our youngest daughter and our little curly headed boy. It was a beautiful evening, as the sun shone from the west. Addie enjoyed snapping the Snap Dragons while spending time with her little (not so little) brother. Meanwhile our oldest two teamed up to set down irrigation pipe for their Daddy (Farmer Dean), as he had an extremely busy day on the farm.
This morning, Friday, was a drizzly, wet morning. The cloudy weather was pleasant to work in, yet not so much moisture that we could not harvest vegetables and Sweet Corn. As the temperatures were so pleasant, we took opportunity to weed our flower garden after preparing the morning harvest.
2000 dozen ears of Sweet Corn was hand harvested to send out to Roadside locations, Stores and to the area New Mexico Farmer's Markets early tomorrow morning. Some Extra Tender was harvested along with our staple white sweet corn, Ice Queen. Pick some up and try roasting them on your grill. Here are some roasting instructions: Put your freshly harvested Schwebach Farm Sweet Corn on the grill. Rotate until husk is blackened. When you peel it back (with great care, as the corn will be very hot) it will be nice and steamy. Cooking time is approximately 10 minutes on each side.
If you stop by Schwebach Farm Market on the weekends, you can usually find our oldest son roasting the Sweet Corn to perfection on Saturday or Sunday late morning to early afternoon.
