Monday night we received another .65 inches of rain. We again praise the Lord for it was soft without hail. Tuesday morning was the first morning in many days where the sun shone. We woke up to plenty of fun mud to slip 'n slide in and everything was covered with dew. It was a simply beautiful morning. While waiting for things to dry out a bit, we conducted the first round of GAP (Good Agriculteral Practices) food safety training. Much of what we took away from that training is common sense,''Wash your hands...alot!'' This year we will implement Employee Hygiene practices.
Schwebach Farm Market opened today, Wednesday, August 6th. Squash and green beans are coming off in wonderful abundance, along with other vegetables. It is so neat to watch things grow, such as the blackberries pictured below. Baby veggies are so cute! We have begun to pick yummy red raspberries - oh so sweet and juicy!
Another highlight of the beginning of our season is potato-digging. Our family went out this afternoon and were so excited to dig out those gold and ruby gems! We hope to have potatoes in the store in the next couple of days (if we don't get more rain).
We hope to see you out at the farm and around town as we begin this harvest season. As always, please visit the blog, the website and/or call for updates or if you have any questions.
